The Top Notch is captained and owned by Russ Kostinas, as well as his brother Gene Kostinas. Not only are they the captains of their own boat, but they are also the builders, they have now built a total of four boats. The Topnotch is a new 48 foot cold molded Sport Fishing Boat Designed with the Wave Form bottom from Applied Concepts. This state of the art boat was built by RG Boatworks and is powered by the Cummins Zeus System. The boat is very stable due to tunnels. The Cummins engines are very quiet and the underwater exhaust allows for no smoke. The interior has a large salon with two big couches which enables the charter to ride in comfort to the fishing ground. The boat is light and strong. This allows for a great cruise speed of 30 knots. There is no vibration due to the Zeus pods and duro props. It was brand new in 2010 with state of the art electronics and 2 air conditioners. There are many amenities including television, DVD player, stereo, and microwave. Captain Gene Kostinas has been fishing for 38 years. He has had his Coast Guard Captain’s license for 30 years. He has a BS degree from ODU and was trained on small engines by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Captain Russ Kostinas has been fishing for 35 years. He has a Masters 100 ton Coast Guard license. He has a BS and MBA degree from ODU. Russ worked as a mate for over 30 years before he received his captains license. Mate Bobby Kostinas, the son of Russ, has been fishing since he could walk. He grew up around some of the best captains in Virginia. Bobby set two world records and was the youngest Master angler in the state of Virginia. He had 25 citation fish before he was 16 years old.
