The Backlash is owned and captained by Steve Richardson. The 53 foot Jim Smith is equipped with twin 903 hp Cummins engine, cruising at 25 knots with a max speed of 30 knots. On board you will find a spacious salon with air-conditioning or heat for those fishing days that range from the 90’s to the 20’s. For those early morning runs and after a long day of cranking fish, in the forward part of the boat you will find comfortable bunks to catch a few z’s. The Backlash carries tournament quality tackle ranging from light spinning tackle to the 80’s that are a must for the big tunas. In the cockpit stands a Murray Bros. Fighting Chair, ready to give you the right level of comfort and ease for those big ones. Capt. Steve operates state of the art electronics up on the bridge including radar, two bottom sounders, two VHF radios, two GPS/Plotter’s and a long range Single Sideband Radio. Capt Steve has been on the charter fleet here at the Virginia Beach Fishing Center for more than 40 years. Capt Steve has plenty of experience when it comes to fishing out of Rudee Inlet.
