Spanish Mackerel Inshore….2 Blues, 6 Whites, and Blueline Tilefish Offshore

by | Aug 3, 2017

Offshore:

This morning before the sun came up we had the Backlash, Top Notch, and Rebel all head out to the deep water offshore. The Backlash pulled into their slip flying a Blue Marlin release flag, as well as unloading a Yellowfin Tuna, and a great catch of Blueline Tilefish, with some of them being citation size. The Rebel pulled into their slip flying a Blue Marlin release flag as well as 6 White Marlin Release flags. The Top Notch was offshore today doing a little Whale Watching.

On the Offshore trips we have seen some good amounts of White Marlin release flags flying in recent days as well as the occasional Blue Marlin release flag. They have also been coming in with some great hauls of Blueline Tilefish and Mahi.

Inshore:

This morning we had the WaveRunner fish inshore along our beautiful coastline here in Virginia Beach. They returned to the docks with some nice Spanish Mackerel, including 2 of which that were citation size.

The inshore trips have been returning to the docks with some nice Catches of Spanish Mackerel as well as some nice Bluefish in the mix of things. The near shore trips have been running out a little further and bringing back some Spadefish to the docks, as well as Spanish Mackerel. We have also continued to have a scattered bite of anglers catching and releasing some Red Drum, and sight casting at some Cobia.

Rudee Inlet:

The bite inside Rudee Inlet continues to produce a variety of catches. We have seen an increased bite in Croaker and Spot hitting on squid and live or artificial bloodworms. We have also received reports of anglers hooking up with some Flounder on the chartreuse gulp on a light jig head or live minnows. You could even use some Silver Sides if you are looking to catch a Flounder. Most of the Flounder that have been caught have been throw backs but there are a few keepers in the mix of things. There are also a few Puppy Drum lingering inside the Inlet as well hitting on cut finger mullet when you can find them.
