What and AWESOME day of
fishing! We had several boats go offshore, as well as inshore.
Inshore today we continued to see some Spanish Mackerel and Taylor Bluefish.
In addition to these two fish, fishing off the beach and the rocks in the inlet
continued to be RED HOT! We were selling bloodworms quicker than we could
stock them today. The Spot fishing in Virginia Beach is hitting an all
time high. Reports were coming in all day from people fishing off the
shore saying they were catching 2 at a time and were hooking them as soon as
they casted. The Flounder fishing was good too, but nothing can seem to
keep up with the Spot right now... except offshore fishing!
Offshore fishing today we
had more flags flying than most people have probably ever seen at once.
This weekend we had an invitation only tournament in Rudee Inlet based out of
our neighbor marina Fisherman's Wharf. There were 9 local boats including
ones out of our marina that headed out yesterday for an overnight trip and
returned today. As 5pm rolled around today, we had boats entering the
inlet with flags filling up their whole outriggers, some boats even had them on
both sides! The boats offshore had caught mostly White Marlin, with
numbers of catch and releases up in the THIRTIES!! One of our captains reported
that he had probably hooked close to 50 fish and at times had 4 or more fish on
at once! Charters said that the action was continuous! In addition
to tons of White Marlin catch and releases, some of the other offshore boats
reported catching some nice dolphin as well today.
As September continues on
and we get closer to October, we expect fishing to continue to be just as good
as it was today. Hopefully the crazy wind that has been causing some
problems will allow us at least a few more great days of fishing both inshore
and offshore. Even though the summer season and vacations have come to an
end for most, we are still working on some make-up charters for those
individuals that do not have all 6 people to charter a boat, but want to get out
there and do some fishing. Call the marina for more information on trips
currently being worked on, or to start your own. We are also already
booking trips for the winter striper season! We hope to see a new BIGGER
and better state record weighed in here again this year, so book your trips
soon, or call for more information!
