Unfortunately it was a pretty slow day as far as fishing goes. We didn't have
any charter boats go out, just a typical offseason Tuesday. But that did leave
time for some of the Captains to come down and do some minor maintenance and
cleaning to use up some free time. A couple of them made it up to the store to
have a chat with us. They are predicting an amazing Marlin season this fall.
Aside from the Marlin, the Speckled Trout and Bluefish should be in large
numbers this fall as well. The Speckled Trout have just started lining the beach
and are quickly making their way to the Inlet. Even though live bloodworms are
some of the best bait to use this time of year. Some of our
charter captains prefer the artificial bloodworms over the live ones because
they stay a lot longer and are definitely less messy. Squid, mullet, shrimp, and
clams are really good bait as well. It's sometimes based on preference, some
people have had better luck with certain bait than others. Squid is the most
generic and will get you mostly Croaker and Speckled Trout this time of year.
