The offshore boats did AWESOME
today!! We have not had many boats go out lately because of the weather.
After the nor'easter and all the windy days last week the seas have not been
too friendly for our boats and anglers to get out there to go fishing.
However, today was a great day out on the water.

We have evidence that Tuna are
showing up again! Because it was so crazy with all the boats showing up at once,
it was hard to get pictures of all the catches. However, we were able to glance
out the window every few minutes and see the fish being carted to the fish
cleaning stand. Yellowfin Tuna and Dolphin graced our docks after a long lull of
Tuna being scarce. The captains said there were as many Dolphin out there as you
wanted, but most of the charters wanted the big action of Billfishing. At least
they got what they came for!
The Billfish have certainly made
a big showing. Almost every boat has come back with between one and six
flags. For those of you that don't know the flags are representation of
the Billfish that were caught. If the flags are right side up, then the
fish are being brought back to the dock, but if the flags are upside down that
means that the fish were released. (Sometimes the charter forgets and shows
the flags right side up on accident in the pictures. So if you see the flag is
right side up in the picture, but you don't see the billfish itself, it may have
been an honest mistake (:
) Most of the time Billfish are released. However, if for some reason the
fish dies or it is a Swordfish, they will bring the fish back to the docks.
Another fun fact about Billfish flags is that the boats are only allowed to keep
the flags displayed on the boats until noon the next day. If the flags are
left up after noon the following day, then it is considered false advertising.
It makes it look like the flags were caught that day. Because of this, the
captains and the mates have a rule that if you leave you flag up past noon, that
they are allowed to climb on your boat, take your flag down, and nail it to the
dock. Most of our guys will let it slide, but every now and then the
captains will come back to a flag nailed to the dock behind their boat.
