What a dreary day again
in Virginia Beach!!! This "Nor'Easter" is kicking up some more bad weather
for us here at the fishing center, and making fishing pretty hard! We
opened this morning at 7am, with high tide following close behind at 8:11 am.
By the time we were at the full high tide, water had come over our fixed docks
into the parking lot and flooded out part of it. The ramps onto our two
floating docks instead of being level as they normally are at high tide, were
instead at an incline with one of them having become so inclined that it no
longer even touched the dock and instead was floating over a foot in the air.
All of the finger piers have been underwater for awhile now and more of the
pilings are lower than they ever have been. On an average day, at high
tide the cleats on the pilings on the floating dock are at about chest level, at
low tide, they are above my head (I'm 5'4''). Today, which is definitely
not an average day, the cleats are below knee level and almost even with the
floating dock! To share just how intense this storm has made the tides, we
walked around this morning documenting the changes at our marina!
On a fishing note..
unfortunately not many people have been fishing out on the water or from the
shore. The rain and wind have not made it a favorable activity for most.
We hope to see the weather clearing up here soon though! The weather
reports for inshore and offshore show that starting Monday it should slowly
start to clear up and by the middle of the week the conditions will be
favorable! Check back for more updates throughout the week!
