25th

It was another beautiful day at the fishing center!  The weather was sunny and warm with a nice breeze to top it off!  With the Striper season drawing to a close it has become a bit quieter around here, but today we had one of our charter boats head offshore for a deep drop trip.  The boat did not return till after we had closed, but we were able to get some pictures.

The fish they were catching yesterday were Black Belly Rose Fish and Wreck Fish.  Black Belly Rose fish are a popular favorite and make a very good meal!  Their color is very different than most of the other fish you catch on a deep drop trip and make it a very unique looking catch.  On this type of trip you will also sometimes see Grouper, Blue Line Tile Fish, Golden Tile Fish, and Black Sea Bass.  Unfortunately, Black Sea Bass is still a closed species.

While the waters the captain was fishing in yesterday for the deep drop species were not quite warm enough for the Blue Fin Tuna, we had reports from boats fishing down in North Carolina waters.  The continuing theme is the fish are headed our way!!!  Currently you can only keep one Blue Fin Tuna per boat per day and only one fish in the giant category per year (73 inches and over).  Yesterday one boat reported their keeping fish weighing in at 162 lbs, but they also hooked into and released several fish over that weight and one that would have met the requirements to be classified a giant Blue Fin Tuna.  Hopefully we will start seeing these fish in our waters in the next month and get a chance at fighting these big 'ol fish!

Call us at the fishing center for more information about this trip and other trips.  We are currently also running trips for Tautog up in the Chesapeake Bay.
