What a beautiful day it turned out to be here again! Everyone keep your fingers crossed that the sunshine and warm temperature are here to stay! We are already beginning to see the affects of the warmer weather on the fishing! Lots of people stopped in the store today to buy some bait for shore fishing! We are hoping to hear some good reports back from their day by the water! Recently we have received reports of nice speckled trout and puppy drum in the inlet, and we have also seen some of the diving birds coming back up with FLOUNDER! This being said, they were small baby flounder which aren't legal to catch-- but nonetheless it is a good sign that there are bigger ones on their way too! Let's hope we will maybe start seeing some anglers hooking into them! In addition to some shore fishing we had one boat head out today after some Rockfish! They came back reporting a nice day on the water with some decent catches. The captain said the Rockfish are still there, but they are now becoming more scattered and not traveling in the large schools as they prepare to move into the bay to spawn. In the main season the fish tend to travel in large schools which make it easy to spot them and hook into them, but they are still being able to find them with a little bit extra effort and time. He reported that you would find a five fish in one place, a few in another, and then a handful in a totally different place. They are still biting on the hooks though once you find them and still giving up an excellent fight like they are known for. There are some nice sizes to the fish so he expects there will be an EXCELLENT trophy season in the bay coming up here in a few weeks! The Rockfish season in the ocean is drawing to a close with only 11 more days left. As of March 31st the ocean will close and the Virginia waters of the Chesapeake will not open for them until May 16th. Make sure to book your trip to get some fat Ocean Rockfish before the season closes for another year! For those anglers who are ready for an awesome offshore season, good news!!!- the bluefin tuna are moving our way! We have received reports that they are getting closer and closer and hopefully will start booking trips for them here in the next week or two! We hope to have one of our boats head out on a scouting mission soon, so look for more information in the days to come! 757-491-8000 800-725-0509 |
