Well, here we are wrapping
up the end of another month, which brings us closer to the summer fishing
season. While we are starting to see some of the summer fish really showing up
(flounder, tuna, bluefish, etc.) we are all on the edge of our seat waiting for
the PEAK season to be here already!
With another REALLY
successful striper season done and over with (it ended March 31), we are ready
to be right in the middle of another season. The bluefin tuna are giving us a
good preview of what's to come this summer and WE CAN'T WAIT! The fishing
offshore has been great! The bluefin are running in good sizes, many averaging
close to or over 100 lbs or 65"+! Not to mention the nice Blueline tilefish that
have been all over the place! MANY MANY nice citations have been brought back
recently.
More inshore, the flounder
are still making their presence known in the Bay with trips going out and
bringing back several keepers; and catching and releasing many more! The Tautog
are still being caught as well, most are using clams or as I was told his
weekend peeler crabs as well. Hooking up to a Tautog ensures a great dinner for
the angler, just have to be patient enough to hook em!
In Rudee Inlet we are
seeing some puppy drum, speckled trout, and recently some Taylor bluefish. While
there aren't any huge ones yet, at least they are starting to bite a little bit
which means summer is FINALLY coming! Most anglers seem to be using finger
mullet, filet of mullet, squid or gulp baits.
We don't have any boats out
today, but with this warm spell we are in the middle of, it surely means that
private and charter boats will be heading out more and more! And that definitely
means more fish to hang on the docks, and more pictures for us to post for
everyone to see!
Hopefully this is the start
of a great new summer season!!!
